A Picture is Worth…

November 30, 2010 by gracefulfitness 2 Comments

A picture is worth…

at least the $23.99 I spent yesterday on a new card reader!

Green Potato Soup.  Leftover mashed potatoes and leftover chard turned into pure green goodness.

The scenic drive home on Sunday.

Pom Balsamic.  Yum.

And yesterday’s creation…

I made bread!  With yeast and everything!

And it turned out pretty good!  The texture is great, the flavor is lacking…salt.  I put salt, rosemary, sunflower seeds, and buckwheat groats into the 100% whole wheat dough so I thought it would be tasty but it’s kinda bland.  But bland I can fix, I am just pleased that it rose and didn’t come out of the oven a 5 pound brick!   Tate gobbled it up!  He’s not that hard to please but I still love it when food passes the Tate Test.

The last two days have been “rest days” for me (read: NO exercise ;)) but today I am ready to get moving.

Now that my MISSION: Yoga 5 for 5 is successfully completed it’s time for a new mission.

MISSION: Balance (Or A Little Bit of Everything)

Duration: 5 weeks

Dates: November 29-January 3

Plan:

  • 3-4 yoga session per week
  • 3-4 runs per week
  • 3 strength training sessions per week
  • 1 Pilates session per week

This sounds like a lot of working out.  And it will be but remember, sometimes my yoga, strength, and Pilates sessions are only 10-15 minutes each, which makes it very feasible to double or triple up on the workouts and still have 1-2 days “off” per week.

I love the idea of setting end of the year goals for myself rather than waiting until January.  This plan will be just the kick in the pants I need to keep moving through the darkest time of the year.  It will help energize and focus me plus keep some holiday weight off.  Speaking of “holiday weight”, I lost a pound over Thanksgiving week!  I guess I really did “make good choices”!

Other end-of-the-year resolutions I am making are; finish decorating the office and bedroom, make albums of Peru and the big trip, and to start blogging daily.

Better get going on my Mission!  Today will feature a 20-30 minute strength training session and 30-40 minutes of yogatime.

Do you have a fitness goal or plan to carry you through the holidays and into the new year?

Happy Cabin Fever

November 29, 2010 by gracefulfitness Leave a Comment

Friday mornings snow flurries didn’t last long but I sure feel like I got snowed in!

I stayed at my sister’s house from Tuesday night through last night and only left the house to go for a walk or run.  No driving, no stores, no one besides family.  Just lots of quality time with my niece and sister, lots of studying (Personal Training certification C.E.C’s), lots of yoga, lots of leftovers, some good runs, and a few movies.

It was really lovely!

But it’s good to be home.

Tate and I spent the afternoon driving home because we decided to take the scenic route (after he made a wrong turn ;)).  We drove 45 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway and even stopped for a super-quick “hike” along the way.  Our 2 hour drive turned into 3 but it was really beautiful and much better than risking sitting in traffic on I-81.

The last of the leftovers were consumed as lunch today and not a moment too soon, I am sick of stuffing!  I ate it 5 days in a row if you count Wednesday’s tastings as I cooked and, although it was super tasty, I am good on stuffing for about a year.

Dinner is done and laundry is in, now I am contemplating my daily yoga.  Today is the final day of my 5 sessions for 5 weeks and tonight’s session is looking like it may be one of the shortest and gentlest of all.  I am tired!  But down on my mat I shall go and 15 minutes later I will be glad I did.

Hasta manana!
