Turn the Page
On our walk last night I mentioned to Tate that I am ready to leave 2010 behind and shout “hello” to 2011. It’s not that 2010 was bad, it was actually AMAZING. Amazingly adventurous and amazingly challenging.
2010 started with one last month of our year-long “life abroad”. We left Lima, Peru on February 1st and traveled the world for five solid months. Traveling (especially the way we do it, by the seat of our pants!) is hard! We loved (nearly) every minute of it but after several months of cheap hostels and overnight buses we were ready to be home.
The last big hurdle of our trip came when I got extremely sick in China and ended up in the emergency room at 3am. Thus began 6 weeks of illness and recovery. Oh yeah, and during that time we traveled back to the States, rented a moving truck to bring our things from Portland, OR to West Virginia, drove across the country, and “moved in” to our families guest rooms and spare couches.
By August we got serious about finding a house to buy so that we could make the move from WV to Charlottesville, VA. After two unsuccessful bids we finally found something that fit with our budget and location, and the house wasn’t bad either!
After living out of a backpack for eight months all I wanted was to unpack my clothes! And just after Labor Day I got that opportunity!
Buying a house was one of the more stressful experiences of my life. That’s all I have to say about that.
Then came the stress of buying a building and opening a practice! It’s been a hell of a year alright.
2011 will be a hell of a year also, our first year in business, getting to know Charlottesville and (hopefully!) forming community bounds here, my 30th birthday. But all of this seems like the calm after the storm that was 2010.
How are you feeling on this last Wednesday of 2010? Are you ready to turn the page or is another sentence or two that needs to be written?
COMMENT COMMIT for today. I must admit, I have been slacking on my exercise commitments. Life just keeps getting in the way, whether it’s family time or illness or the clinic, I haven’t been meeting my goals lately. Today I am going to set my goals manageably low.
I will
- walk to the clinic this morning (1.6 miles)
- do yoga
The sickness is still trying to take ahold of me but I am fighting it tooth and nail with whole foods, vitamins, WATER, and rest.
MOVE TODAY! Do it. Whatever little bit or lot a bit fits with your day. Moving will boost your immune system, boost your metabolism, boost your mood, and maybe even boost your bum! 😉
