I am super anxious to break into my grape soda stash but I think I need to wait a day or two for the carbonation to build up. 🙁
The gym has been providing all kinds of entertainment this week, I’m loving it! I’ve gone to
2 yoga classes you can read about Monday’s class here. Yesterday’s class was the same teacher (who will remain unnamed). She seemed a little more together but the best part of the class was that Tate came too! And I didn’t even invite him, he just said “hey, I think I’ll come to yoga with you this afternoon”. He loved the class, said it was his favorite yoga class ever. It just goes to show that a. that most teachers you don’t like aren’t bad they just aren’t your style and b. I am a super harsh critic of teachers.
Step xpress step makes me feel anything but graceful! And I used to teach it! My classes weren’t full-on step though, they were 3 minutes of step with weights mixed with straight strength training. We would basically do the same 2 moves for three minutes (much harder and more fun than it sounds!). The few times I subbed a “real” step class I bombed.
ZUMBA! I have a mixed relationship with Zumba, I totally love the idea of it, a lot of the music, and most of the steps. I don’t love a lot of the teachers. I know, I know, I am harsh. My Wednesday night class was fun, the teacher was good but she lacked a certain enthusiasm that really took it to the next level. Harsh. The class was packed though, it was a Zumba ZOO in there!
Today I am excited to go to a mat Pilates class and tomorrow I am going to start on the reformer. Can you believe that ACAC has reformer classes included in it’s regular membership? It’s ridiculous.
Reformer lessons in a small group start at around $30 an hour. This makes the hefty monthly ACAC fees seem a little less…hefty. (I haven’t gotten a price quote from the gym but I’ve heard it’s $80-100 a month.) I paid $40 for my month at the silent auction and that included a two week pass for Tate (which he is loving).
I love working on the Pilates reformer but haven’t had a chance to since college when we had them in the dance department and were required to workout on them. The plan is to take full advantage of the ACAC classes over the next month :).
Have you Zumba’d?
ARGH! I have a long to-do list but not the motivation to tackle it!
that motivation must be around here somewhere…
LOVE Zumba. It’s probably my favorite class at the gym….it’s fun, and the the time just flies! You’re right though, the teacher can totally make – or break – the class. And there are definitely routines I’m all EH about.
I resisted Zumba for a long time but finally tried it out when we were in SLC. It was actually really fun! You are right; the teacher totally makes it. I could see it only being egh if the teacher was just so-so.
Oh, Geez! Somehow, your motivation happened to land out here in Seattle. Here you go, you can have it back! (wink)
Thanks Kristi! This was just what I needed RIGHT NOW!
🙂
I have never “zumba’d”
I would be so uncoordinated!
I haven’t tried Zumba, but it seems like it would be fun. And I hear ya on the motivation thing. I’m really struggling right now. I’m going to blame it on winter. 🙂 Hope that motivation pops up soon! For both of us.
I took Zumba several times. I did like it however recently got hooked on the new release of Body Jam, which throws very much back on latin dance.
I am super hesitant to try Zumba. Selfish? Yes. I know I love to run and love Pure Barre and so I am going to waste an evening gyrating my hips with a bunch of well..people who don’t want to sweat. I should probably just put on my big girl panties and go.
I totally understand not wanting to possibly “waste” your gym time but make no mistake, Zumba can be sweaty and heart pumping! Like I said though, totally depends on the teacher and more often than not the teacher breaks it for me instead of makes it. 🙁
But I am insanely critical of teachers!
I have a love-hate relationship with Zumba, too! My sister is a Zumba instructor, so of course I love that, but I am sooo uncoordinated that I get confused when I am ‘trying’ to ‘join the party’ haha. =D
Totally! That is one time when the instructor can make it or break it for me. If the teacher is impossible to imitate because they are a ridiculously amazing dancer than it makes me distracted and self-conscious. I like a teacher who is an awesome dancer but knows when to tone it down so the students can actually follow.
How long has your sister been teaching?
