Don’t worry about me if I start to look a little orange.
But it’s all in the name of MUFFINS!
Oh yes, that is filling you see peaking out.
I’m calling this one Inside Out Carrot Cake. Mmmmm
It still needs a little work (and I need more muffins!) so look for the recipe to be posted tomorrow morning.
I woke up with leftover grated carrots in the fridge and a hankering for gooey carrot cake
Best oats in a while.
- 1/2 cup thick rolled oats
- ~1/2 cup grated carrots
- 1 cup water
- 2 T peanut flour
- homemade coconut butter disc
- 1 T chopped walnuts & almonds
This bowl was hearty chewy deliciousness. And super filling, I almost didn’t finish it.
Today is one of those days when I am really missing having a gym. It’s rainy and windy and I did my best indoor workout yesterday (strength intervals, a la Core Four). What’s a girl to do?
My body says, “yes, PLEASE!” but my mind says “nah, really not in the mood”.
Ironically, ever since I set my goal for February of practicing lots of yoga, my yoga-doing has significantly declined. I think it’s due in part to ending my month at the gym a few weeks ago. I was really dedicated to a three times a week yoga class attendance for that month and am having a challenge transitioning back into a home practice.
All I need to do is roll out the mat and commit to 20 minutes, that’s really all it will take to remind myself that I my mind wants yoga too. Do I sound like I am trying to talk myself into it? Well, yeah I am a little bit.
Do you practice yoga? If so, are you a dedicated class attendee or solely a solo yogi? I think that there is deep value in each, a teacher can be invaluable and the energy you get from other students can really help you push through challenges. It is empowering to create your own practice, be it 5 minutes or an hour, and really nice to have it available anytime you want it, no studio required.
Alright, enough talk, time for some action. Where’s that mat.
My yoga has declined too! I don’t know why! I think it’s the warmer weather.
You can come to the gym with me on First Friday!
Yes please! But I don’t really want to go to Ashtanga, maybe we can just play on the machines.
We have snow on the ground again. I just came back from a yoga retreat where I had 4 hours of yoga each day. I have one class a week and try to do a 10 minute home practice at least twice a week but I have never been able to get myself motivated for a daily home practice.
P.S. My son was in C-ville last weekend for interviews and was offered a fabulous fellowship at UVA. I am hoping they choose that and then I will be joining you at Core Four, looking for workout friends and visiting Great Harvest regularly. Kath – do you need a volunteer to hand out samples at local races?
Wow, where did you do the retreat? That sounds great. I am thinking about treating myself to the Yoga Journal Conference in May for my 30th birthday.
Congrats on your sons fellowship offer and hope to see you around these parts!
Maya Tulum which is about 1 1/2 hours south of Cancun. Great food, low-key beach and their site lists lots of retreat options.
I’ve been there and it was fabulous!
Faith, I have been feeling the same way about yoga! I agree with the value in both instructional & private practice ; I haven’t found/chosen a class in Flagstaff yet & committed to practicing daily on my own again…but without a lot of success. Hmm…maybe we can inspire each other?? What did you choose as the focus on your mat today? I think mine might be acceptance — acceptance for the approaching storm & a need to slow down & enjoy some “me” time this weekend — oh & attack my tight hamstrings. 😉
Thanks for the reminder. I have some sequences from yoga journal I have kept in a binder; maybe they will inspire me as well.
p.s. Have you tried/heard of YogaGlo,com?
YogaGlo? No but I am going to check it out right now.
Hmmm, my intention on the mat today was to cultivate presence. I know that that is one of the first tenets of yoga but sometimes it’s easier said than done when it’s 1 pm and you just returned from a run and haven’t eaten lunch and are going back to the office for the afternoon! I am such a multi-tasker that unfortunately it can cross over into my yoga practice if I let it. Ever caught yourself making a to-do list in downdog?!
Along those lines, I did a sitting mediation today, on of the few unguided ones I’ve ever done in my life! It was 3 minutes and I plan on incorporating it into my life on a more regular basis.
Make a to-do list in downdog? uh…no…never…except nearly all the time. I tend to multi-task too & like lists, so yes, establishing presence is definitely easier said than done for me as well — but so beautiful it is worth the constant effort.
Mmm, you have also reminded me I miss regular meditation as well.
For now I’m using Yoga Downloads at home but when my schedule allows I’ll go back to a local class that I love. It’s called Gentle Yoga (I’m a newbie) and I leave feeling so full of energy and yet relaxed at the same time. Love it a lot!
I checked out Yoga Downloads once, I should give it another shot. Thanks for the reminder!
Your muffins! With filling! They kill me. In the best possible, covered-in-muffin-crumbs sort of way.
Sarah (The Rounded Teaspoon)
I’ve just done bikram a couple of times, and it’s rejuvenated my practice. Otherwise, I’m an at-home solo practicer. I like Rodney Yee’s dvds A LOT. They are challenging.
Nice. I am not a fan of Bikram but I do need to give Rodney another go.
Those muffins look so good!
I take a class every Saturday that I love. And I try to do yoga at home 2-3 times during the week although it doesn’t always happen. When I don’t want to do yoga at home I try to remind myself how much better I will feel after just 15-20 minutes!
