What would you do with an extra hour in your day?
My answer would be different for different days but apparently today it is gaze at the garden because that’s what I did when I woke up an hour early this morning.
I didn’t end up getting my hands dirty because once I stepped outside I realized that the ground was still pretty cold. I did, however, do a little weeding and planned out where my first seeds of the season will go.
I bought seven packets Southern Exposure Seed Exchange seeds yesterday and am itching to get them in the earth, especially the beets and peas because we’ve managed to grow greens all winter.
Even lettuce!
Southern Exposure Seed Exchange is a local company that specializes in heirloom, non-GMO seeds. They focus on varieties that do well in the Mid-Atlantic region but, according to the website, they have customers across the country. I buy their seeds at the local health food store for $1.99 a packet (unfortunately they cost more to mail order).
Hopefully those seeds will go in over the weekend…
Remember those beautiful Chioggia beets and watermelon radishes from last year?
The other project for my extra hour was working on my syllabus.
I am going to be teaching Modern Dance at Piedmont Virginia Community College for the second half of the Spring semester. The class will be a mix of technique, improvisation, and choreography and just like all college courses, will include reading and writing assignments, homework, a final project/exam.
I guess my extra hour this morning will make up for the lost hour on Sunday-it’s that time again here in the U.S., don’t forget to spring forward! Sunday night will be a beautiful thing…love the later daylight.

If I find another extra hour I’ll run and do a little yoga…#iwillmovetoday
