Hope for the Future

April 1, 2012 by gracefulfitness 4 Comments

This month I am participating in Wego‘s Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge.  Wego Health is a social media network focused on health activism.  The challenge (HAWMC) runs the month of April and the goal is to write 28-30 (you get 2 days off if you need ’em) health-related posts.  Wego sends you a list of prompts for each day and, although you are in no way required to use them, I will mostly be following the list.  I chose to participate in the challenge after stumbling upon it during an unrelated search and am looking forward to this “online writing workshop”.   You can participate too!  If you have a venue for online writing and this challenge sounds intriguing to you then join in! Sign up to have the prompts sent to you here.  Check out the HAWMC blog, Facebook page, or #HAWMC for more of the good stuff: health activism!

Health Time Capsule. Pretend you’re making a time capsule of you & your health focus that won’t be opened until 2112. What’s in it? What would people think of it when they found it?

Dear Healthy Living Blogger of 2112,

Today is a typical Sunday morning.  I slept until almost 9.  Drank my lemon and hot water followed by black coffee and savory oats.

I blog on a Toshiba laptop, it’s a very basic set up, even for 2012.  Speaking of wi-fi, there are some concerns about the health effects of all the electromagnetic radiation that we are now exposed to every minute of everyday.  If these concerns are valid I fear for the future generations, like you.

At least you don’t have to worry about second-hand smoke!  Can you believe that cigarettes are not only legal but over 45 million people in the United States still smoke?  I’m sure that sounds crazy to you, considering that by 2112 cigarettes are more illegal than crack.

Obesity is also a big issue in the United States.  Refined, convenient, corn and sugar based food has become cheap and thus overconsumed.  People are undernourished and overfat and it’s taking a toll on everything from the national budget to the global environment.

I’m sure this all sounds rather old fashioned, reading it in 2112 as you are.  What, with the high tax on processed foods and all the subsidies for local, organic food that make it challenging to not eat whole, real food.

Wishing you a leaner and greener future!

F.
