Morning Check In
Nearly every morning of the week I head out the backdoor to ‘survey the ol’ homestead’.
Sometimes it’s just a quick peak to see what’s sprouted overnight but if I have a few spare minutes I will often pull weeds or putter around a while.
This morning I found blueberries forming!
And the first bloom from bulbs I planted last year.
Strawberries! We were a little overeager with these guys, they could have used another day, but they were still delicious!
Strawberries are one of my absolutely non-negotiables when it comes to buying organic, which makes the $8 we spent on plants last year money very well spent!
My sage and chives have flowered!
Do you have any go-to chive blossom recipes?
How about sage?
If nothing else, they will add great color to salads!
The kale and chard from last fall were trying to flower also. I want to prolong the greens as long as possible so I chopped them all down to deter bolting.
Kale chips are on the menu for the weekend!
If you have an ideas for what to do with a grocery bag of chard, please share them! I will probably end up making a Green ‘n Bean Tart (so good!) but I’ve got enough for a few dishes.
What’s on your menu (food or activity!) for the weekend?
