A Blog is Born
Two years ago Gracefulfitness was born.
The gestation period was one of several months. In the spring of 2010 I was living the uprooted, untied, free, and open life of a world traveler. It was glorious but I wanted a project, something to help me connect with my people (you!) and find a sense of grounding and productivity. Blogging became that and so much more.
Like many blogs, this one started with poor quality, small pictures, a lack of direction, and little knowledge of the inner workings of the blogosphere (I’m still clueless!).
At least my pictures have gotten bigger and better! 🙂
No really, a big thanks to those of you who have been around since the beginning, some of those early posts are a little difficult for me to read (tmi! so damn chipper! way too much about me! fuzzy pictures! so many exclamation points!). We all have to start some where though and I like to think I have evolved as a blogger since those early posts.
Now, coming into the third year, Gracefulfitness is coming into its own, becoming comfortable in its skin.
Still, sometimes I wonder if I am doing a disservice to myself, my readers, and (let’s be real here) my potential for growth by my lack of consistency/branding (posts on food, gardening, life, fitness, health issues, kitchen renovation, you name it).
Does it really all fit under the umbrella of graceful fitness?
My resounding conclusion is YES! Sure, why not? Let’s re-frame how we think of fitness.
In biology the definition of fitness is the degree of adaptation of an organism to its environment. This blog is about adapting, hopefully gracefully, to my environment and maybe inspiring you to do the same.
Here are some of my favorite posts from the last two years.

I was certainly surprised that my public declaration to quit chemical deodorant brought up so much passion and interest from readers! Here is the original declaration and the follow up posts. Check out the comments if you are interested in learning about alternatives to chemical deodorant, there are some great reader suggestions!
