A couple weeks ago Fit Fluential Ambassadors like myself were asked to put together a Pinterest #fitnessbucketlist board. I immediately loved the idea but found that my mind went blank. Fitness is always a part of my life, there are few things I’d rather be doing than dancing, walking, hiking, running, practicing yoga, teaching classes, or biking but these days my mind is just not in ‘training’ mode. Of course, the more I thought about it I was able to come up with a few things, some of them very concrete and others a little more abstract.
Here’s my board but I also listed them below.
My Fitness Bucket List
1. Run a race in Big Sur. I don’t care the length but I’ve wanted to do this for a long time! Any recommendations for a half marathon or shorter?
2. Present a Gracefulfitness retreat. This one is HUGE and perhaps a pipe-dream but that’s what a bucket list is for, right? I’ve had readers ask me to do this and it definitely got the mind cranking with possibilities.
3. Backpack on the Appalachian Trail for more than three days. I’m not interested in the whole 2,184 miles right now (never say never) but I do love the rhythm and simplicity that happens when you are on the trail for more than a night or two.
4. Practice yoga for 30 consecutive days. I think my consecutive record is only like 7 days. There are things that happen, mentally and physically, with practicing everyday, I just need to commit and do it!
5. Run the Hood-to-Coast Relay in Oregon. I had several friends do this 199 mile running relay from Mt. Hood to the coast town of Seaside and they all raved about it; stinky feet, no sleep, running thru the night and all! Someday…
6. Run forever. Never say never but I hope to run forever.
7. Take a Pilates-specific anatomy course. I am eternally grateful to have been required to take an amazing Kinesiology for Dancers course as part of my B.F.A (back in 2003) but it’s time to both brush up and get into the details. I thought about this one but I decided to attend FitBloggin’ in September instead!
8. Dance. Dance. Dance. 🙂 Fitness is multifaceted and for me a main facet of maintaining physical fitness has always been a means to keep dancing.
What’s on your fitness bucket list?
i’m aiming for a half marathon in April next year….a while away but it means i can build up slowly. Also would like to do an ocean swim this summer…..need for it to be a bit warmer before i get in that pool at the beach though!!
Half marathon is such a great distance, you’ll rock it!
oh i love this!
do a Gracefulfitness retreat definitely – i’m SO THERE. honestly, if you chose a reasonable location & expenses (or at least give plenty of notice), i’d really love to be there.
i would also do a 30 day yoga challenge with you. i’ve committed to practicing every day, but honestly it’s probably more like 5 or 6 days of the week right now. i’m realizing it can be “yoga-centered”, & more about mediation or breathing exercises some days. a group challenge might be helpful.
I know exactly what you mean about recognizing the ‘yoga’ in life aside from straight asana. Thanks for your enthusiasm on the retreat! I’m definitely rolling around possibilities…:)
This is something I’ve been thinking about for awhile (a fitness bucket list) and I haven’t got the whole list ready, but my list includes running a marathon, doing a half-Ironman, and climbing Kilimanjaro.
Nice Joanne! I’ve heard great things about Kilimanjaro, I might have to add that one too!
I’ve never thought of making a fitness bucket list, and I really like the idea. Right now, I just have a random bucket list. Fitness items include:
a triathalon, getting my 500 hour RYT certification, giving crossfit a try, a fourteener a summer, & http://www.imogenerun.com/. Seeing your list, I’m inspired to add more dance–and to make a new kind of bucket list. Thanks for sharing.
Love the 14er goal, I tried to think of some summits for my list but I don’t have any in particular right now. A triathalon comes and goes from my list, I love the idea of it but can’t convince myself to train for the swim.
1- I’d like to become certified to teach yoga
2- I’d like to find a hoop class and go diligently
3- learn to really swim
4- go to graceful fitness retreat (see I just added one)
Love all 4! You work on 1-3 and I’ll work on #4 :).
Hood-to-Coast has been on my fitness bucketlist for years – I forgot about it for a while after I left Portland for college and grad school, but you have reminded me! 🙂
I love this post!! I’ve been wanting to come up with a fitness bucket list for a while now, but still have to actually write (or type) one up… maybe that’s something I’ll get done today. I also love hearing about your love for dance. I just graduated with a B.M. in Music Composition, and I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had to work with dancers. There’s something so magical about combining music and movement in a full-on creative environment — all four years, I participated in a 2-week program called “Dance a Day,” wherein composers and choreographers were paired up for 2 hours every afternoon. You had to come up with a dance and corresponding music based on a daily prompt, and you only had an hour to do it. Then, everyone got together for the second hour and performed in front of the whole dance department. It was a little nerve-wracking, but incredibly eye-opening and a lot of fun! Seeing you mention your passion for dance just gets me so excited! 🙂
If you do decide to do the whole trail, I’m in Rangeley, ME and we have a small apartment over our restaurant and you’re welcome to crash, shower, enjoy the lake, etc 🙂
Thanks Laura! What a sweet offer!
We are actually heading to Maine next week, we’ll be driving from Boston to Acadia, do you have any specific recommendations for the coast?
