Down East

Maine, whoa whatta state.

We’ve found nothing but very friendly folks, delicious lobster and blueberries, a progressive consciousness, gorgeous landscape, and an environmental sensability.

The highlights so far have been driving up route 1 between Portland and Acadia and hiking Sargents Mountain in the park yesterday.

As you drive along 1 you are routed right down the quaintest main streets possible.  My favorite town was Belfast because it felt like a real town, not just a tourist strip.  Plus, if I was the kind of girl who befriended a town based on their food co-op than Belfast and I would be besties.

The word on the street this morning is that the pouring rain that woke me up in the tent last night is here to stay for several days so we are hitting the road for Providence.

P.s the rumors about the mosquitoes and crowds in Maine are true. So are the ones about the scenery, the lobster, and the lovely people. Totally worth battling the former.
