I didn’t make any fitness resolutions this year (I didn’t make any resolutions actually) but I am still feeling the push to get physical.
There’s something about this time of year that always makes me want to move! I stayed pretty active over the holidays but definitely got out of my routine and didn’t push myself, just managed to maintain my fitness base. Now the light has returned and with it my motivation go a little harder, a little faster, and a little more.
I see some spring races in my future. I haven’t run any races or any long distances (more than 5 miles for me) in a few years but I have my eye on the Charlottesville Ten Miler coming up at the end of March.
Tate is also thinking of going big again this year. He raced hard the summer of 2012; half-ironman, 65 & 100 mile mountain bike races, and a crazy kayaking triathlon. This summer he plans to race the 10 miler and get down and dirty in a Spartan Race.
Are you familiar with the Spartan Race series? This obstacle race like no other. Straight from the website ; “There is fire, mud, water, barbed wire, and occasionally Hell on Earth.” Whoa, intense. Tate’s brother completed the Spartan Race last summer and loved the experience so this year they are doing it together. There are Spartan Race events are held all over the world, the next races coming up are in California on 1/25 & 1/26, Arizona on 2/8 & 2/9, and Tampa on 2/15. Lucky for Tate there is one coming up in August just an hour away at Wintergreen Resort here in Virginia.
Have you done a Spartan Race or is it on your bucket list for this year? Spartan Race generously offered a free entry code to one of my readers, good for any race in 2014! I am not receiving any financial incentive for this post, I just thought that many of you would be thrilled at the chance to get a free entry so I jumped at the chance to offer it.
All you have to do to to enter the giveaway is to leave a comment telling me why you are excited about doing a Spartan Race. I’ll email the winner the code on Wednesday!
I did spartan Fenway and I’ve done other obstacle races but I’m dying to do a spartan race that isn’t at the ball park!
Very excited to do this race with my bro
I love your post about not making New Years resolutions. I find that in the past I have made too lofty goals and then failed to meet them. This year I only made one resolution. To complete an adventure race(tough mudder, warrior dash, or spartan race). There is a race close to me in Salt Lake City on June 28th. Any help with this goal would be much appreciated;)
This race looks like so much fun! I’d love to participate here in AZ!
I did a Tough Mudder and loved the experience but not the price tag. I’d love to try a Spartan!
As a novices to the Spartan Races my Husband and I would love to incoporate them into our goals for 2014; would be a great motivation for busy working parents to get outside and keep moving. Thanks for the opportunity!
I’m excited to have the chance to run around inside Fenway Park.
I’m excited because I ran it a few months ago and want to do it again!
I want to win because I’ve never run the Spartan before…
I’m excited about doing a spartan race because they seem like they are trying to pave the way for the sport. The videos make it look so amazing.
I just met my goal of running a marathon at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend on Sunday, so now I’m in a daze of what to do next! For the first time in years, I’m not registered for any races! Another Spartan race may be it! I actually did the Super at Wintergreen in 2013 and it was BRUTAL (check out my 4-part recap!) – now that I know what I’m facing, I think I’m ready to take on another!
