I’m just gonna dive right into it.
Two years and a month after having a LEEP procedure I received “abnormal” results on my last pap smear.
That was five weeks ago.
I’ve just been sitting with the information since then. Actually I’ve been trying to ignore it. Real responsible, eh?
When my very awesome Certified Nurse Midwife called me to give me the results I had a mild panic attack. I felt like one minute I was playing on a beautiful beach, splashing in the water without a care, then all of a sudden I was taken under by a massive wave and tumbled around on the ocean floor. I spent about an hour sobbing. I felt let down by my body and heart broken at the thought of another biopsy and possibly another LEEP.
After reading back over my old posts about my experience with cervical dysplasia I decided two things. First, I needed to calm the fuck down and breathe because stress is one of the worst things for my body and this condition. Second, I will follow up with another pap in hopes that it was a false positive as a result of a mild infection or something else before jumping into a costly and painful biopsy.
I’m going in for another pap in the beginning of February, until then I am bound and determined to not get caught up in the stress of “what if”.
Sending you love as you breathe…
Thinking of you.
That sucks. Hope, you are alright! Must be rough to be faced with a similar situation a second time.
Faith, have you ever heard of escharotic treatment for dysplasia? I think it would be worth researching for you. Here’s a good explanation http://drnick.net/index.php?p=341255
So sorry to hear this. Hoping for the best.
Faith, I’m a long-time reader and I remember your first diagnosis, and the LEEP procedure. I am so sorry that you are dealing with this for a second time. And while I wish that you weren’t facing this at all, I am glad that you have and are continuing to blog about it. I’m facing my own health issues right now, some just recently diagnosed, and I’m also feeling let down by my body. I’m frustrated and scared and confused about what to do next. I needed the reminder today that stress is that last thing I need right now, and that I need to not get caught up in the “what ifs.”
Sending positive thoughts and energy you way, hope it all turns out ok 🙂
I’d like to echo everything Christine above said — I’m also going through some new medical issues and it’s no fun. Take good care of yourself and breathe. Sending positive thoughts your way 🙂
Hi Faith
Wonderful way to deal! Breathe!
Also, I almost didn’t share this cause I know you will be getting tons of advice, but then I couldn’t not share just in case it could help you 🙂
My sister and best friend have gone through similar experiences (one with a an experince nealry identical to yours with and another with a biopsy only) I thought I ought to share the path they each took, just in case it would be something you are interested in. They both started to chug raw wheat grass. Weird eh? but google it. the most important part both turned their cells around to “normal”. I am sure you will be getting a mountain of advice and I hate to be one of the many telling you what you “should” do…please take this as: this is what others did and maybe it will help you and nothing more.
Sending you good wishes and positive thoughts. You can turn this around!
Hi Tracy,
Thank you so much for sharing, this is great info and if nothing else wheat grass definitely isn’t going to hurt!
I’ve appreciated reading your honest posts – at the very least they are empowering and comforting to others like me who’ve had cervical dysplasia and have felt messed up or ill because of it. It’s encouraging for my self image to think, “Hey, this woman is incredibly healthy in a holistic way, and even she is dealing with similar issues.”
That said, I want to pass on some really interesting information my naturopath used for my treatment a year ago. And for me, anyway, it worked! She prescribed 14 daily doses of green tea vaginal suppositories (sounds pretty exotic, I know – they were prepared for me by a local compounding pharmacy), then daily doses of liquid Folate and Beta-carotene for a month or two. I don’t remember the exact protocol, but it might be worth checking in with your ND or certified nurse midwife to see if she agrees with this approach. Best wishes and healing!
