A Letter to My Whiteache
Having a rough week, huh? I hear you, there is A LOT to process right now, the growing pains are real and they are plenty.
I know that your ‘white fragility’ feels, well, fragile and challenging and scary to confront but I am here to tell you; get your head out of your ass and face it head on.
Embrace the incredible gift of having those ‘privilege goggles’ ripped off; you are seeing an aspect of yourself that has mostly been in your blind-spot for nearly 40 years.
We all know how much you like ‘personal growth’ and self discovery, well here you go! You have your work cut out for you on this one!
I know that you are not racist, never have been. I know you were raised knowing racism is hateful and fear based and discriminatory but honey, have you grown into a genuine anti-racist adult? Yeah, there’s some…lots of…work that could be done there.
Baby girl, I know your heart is breaking as your mind is opening, it’s okay. As Rebekah Borucki says, “A lot of shit broke my heart but fixed my vision”.
Keep listening, keep seeing, don’t stop speaking up, keep the tears flowing, let the heart break over and over again, keep improving your vision.
I love you.
