HAWMC

HAWMC Wrap Up

May 1, 2012 by gracefulfitness 8 Comments

On April 1st I announced that I was going to participate in WEGO Health’s Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge.

The challenge was to write health-focused posts throughout the month of April and was open to anyone who wanted to participate (no compensation or incentives were offered or accepted).

I was excited to join in the writing fun and get some outside inspiration for post topics (WEGO provided prompts for each post).

In case you missed ’em, here are my posts from the challenge.

What to you see as the future of health?

Quote inspiration; find a quote that inspires you and write about it.

If you were a superhero, what would your power be?

Ekphrasis post

What would you like to tell your 16 year old self?

Write about fears that you have overcome in your life.

Post your schedule for the day.

Make a list of 10 items you wouldn’t want to live without.

Describe your ideal day.

Make a health focus board on Pinterest.

Open a book, read a passage, write a post.

Write about 5 small challenges and how you overcame them.

The challenge was to write 28 posts over 30 days.

I wrote 12.

Fail?

Nah.  My glass is usually half full (except for when it’s empty).

I had a good time with this project and I was definitely challenged as a writer, as a blogger, and as a health activist.

I was also reminded that follow-through is not my strong suit.  Something to work on…

Victory!

April 27, 2012 by gracefulfitness 4 Comments

5 Small Challenges and 5 Small Victories

The challenge: Running a marathon.  The victory: Every. Single. Mile.

The challenge: Eating healthy while traveling around the world.  The victory: Seeking out nutrients at farm stands and grocery stores but not stressing over a few meals of boiled white rice or crackers.

The challenge: Finding healthy and productive ways to deal with a health issue.  The victory: An ability to see the big picture.

The challenge:  Years and years of insomnia. The victory: Sweet, sweet, sound sleep.

The challenge: Living in four different cities over ten years. The victory: Developing a sense of home and community in each of them.

Post a comment! I’d love to hear your challenges and the victories of dealing with them!
