The Challenge
Please allow me to brag a little.
My man rocks.
Seriously, this guy has been impressing me with his athleticism for nearly two decades and he just keeps going.
Saturday marked his third time competing in the Captain Thurmond’s Challenge (renamed New River Gorge Challenge this year). The first time he completed this nontraditional triathalon of mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, and steep, uphill, trail running we had just gotten back to the States from a year and a half abroad. He was in okay shape (the man’s never out of shape) but hadn’t trained and decided the day before to do it. He finished 2nd in his division.
Last year he finished third overall!
I had the pleasure of running for a relay team last year. My team, The C’villians finished and had a lot of fun and even won prizes, although non of us were really competing.
(notice that Tate was already all cleaned up by the time I was coming across the finish. 🙂 )
My C’villian teammates were out of town this year so I was a spectator, which I was grateful for when…
Tate was the first solo competitor across the finish line!!!!!!
Always finish strong. 🙂
He was second overall with a 10+ minute lead on the next guy to come in. So awesome.
As the overall winner he got a nice cash prize and a lot of high fives.
He claims he’ll do a relay team with me next year, we’ll see as the time gets closer.
